The World Traditional Karate-Do Federation (WTKF) and the Confederação de Karate-Dô Tradicional Brasileira (CKTB) proudly hosted a historic week celebrating the martial art that unites tradition, discipline, and spirit.

From November 18 to 22, 2025, Natal, RN, Brazil became the international capital of Traditional Karate-Do, welcoming athletes, instructors, and families from around the world for three landmark events:

WTKF XXI Pan-American Championship

November 20 — Top athletes from across the continent competed for the highest Pan-American title in Traditional Karate-Do.

Children Cup 2025

November 21 — Young practitioners took center stage in a special event dedicated to passing the values of Karate-Do to the next generation.

Intercontinental Open Cup 2025

November 22 — An open international tournament brought together competitors from multiple continents, uniting cultures under the spirit of Traditional Karate-Do.

The Board of Directors of the World Traditional Karate-Do Federation (WTKF) formally announces the adoption of a renewed visual identity, effective October 1, 2025 , reflecting the continued growth and international development of the Federation.

The updated logo incorporates a stylized flame , symbolizing the living spirit of Traditional Karate-Do—the transmission of knowledge, energy, and values from master to disciple across generations. Its upward movement represents the ongoing pursuit of self-improvement, discipline, and spiritual elevation that defines the traditional path.

Encircling the flame, the circle affirms the principles of unity and universality, expressing the shared spirit of Karate-Do across cultures, nations, and generations.

This evolution of the Federation’s visual identity was undertaken to project a more contemporary and dynamic image, while remaining firmly rooted in the traditions and values that guide our practice. The flame reflects strength, dedication, and commitment to the core principles of Traditional Karate-Do: respect, discipline, perseverance, and peace .

Effective immediately, all official WTKF events, communications, and materials will reflect this renewed identity, reinforcing the Federation’s long-term vision and guiding motto:

International Traditional Karate-Do Seminar

The Czech Alliance of Traditional Karate-Do (CTKA) is honored to host an international seminar led by one of the foremost figures in Traditional Karate-Do:

Sensei Nelson Carrión, 8th Dan

Secretary General, World Traditional Karate-Do Federation (WTKF)

This seminar offers a rare opportunity to study Sensei Carrión’s structured training methodology, developed to support daily dōjō practice and the effective transmission of Karate-Do to students of all ages through a clear, practical, and results-oriented approach.

The program will address the training of Kata, Kihon, and Kumite , with particular emphasis on traditional striking tools such as the makiwara, pads, and heavy bag . Participants will explore how proper grounding, coordinated breathing, and focused power contribute to correct and effective technique.

Sensei Carrión will also emphasize body dynamics and correct posture , fundamental elements in the practice of authentic Traditional Karate-Do.

This seminar represents a unique opportunity to train with a master who has dedicated his life to preserving and advancing the spirit of Traditional Karate-Do worldwide.

Practitioners of all levels are warmly invited to participate in this intensive weekend of study, practice, and exchange.

A Life Dedicated to the Spirit of Traditional Karate-Do

Hiroshi Shirai was a distinguished Japanese Shotokan karate master and one of the most influential figures in the international development of Traditional Karate-Do. He was born on July 31, 1937 , in Nagasaki, Japan , and began his karate training in 1956 , quickly distinguishing himself through exceptional skill, discipline, and dedication.

In 1962 , Shirai achieved international recognition by winning both kata and kumite championships of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) , earning the prestigious title of Grand Champion . His karate was profoundly shaped by the teachings of leading masters such as Masatoshi Nakayama and Hidetaka Nishiyama , whose influence remained evident throughout his life and teaching.

In 1965 , Shirai relocated to Milan, Italy , where he became a central figure in the expansion and establishment of Shotokan karate across Europe. He was particularly known for emphasizing the practical self-defense dimension of karate, which he defined as Goshindo , integrating traditional technique with real-world application.

In recognition of his lifelong contribution to Karate-Do, Shirai was awarded the rank of 10th Dan in 2011 by the Italian Traditional Karate Association (FIKTA) , a distinction reflecting his technical mastery, teaching legacy, and moral authority within the martial arts community.

Hiroshi Shirai passed away on October 9, 2024 , leaving behind an enduring legacy as a master, teacher, and guardian of Traditional Karate-Do. His influence continues through generations of practitioners worldwide who carry forward his teachings, spirit, and dedication to the Way.

On behalf of the Tournament Organizing Committee and the All-Russian Traditional Karate Federation we are proud and honoured to invite all WTKF members to take part in The Fifth International Traditional Karate-Do Tournament “Kumite Evolution Cup” that will be held April 27-28, 2024, in Irkutsk (Russia). A special feature of the tournament are the competition rules for children and amateurs under the 1st Dan.

We named these rules the Global Educational and Competitive Standard (GECS) and have been improving them over the past 10 years. We will be happy to share our experience of using this comprehensive educational and competitive system, which is a careful adaptation of the ITKF rules of competition designed for this technical level of students.

COMPETITIONS:

08h00 – Concentration of athletes
08h30 – Start of Competitions.

KUMITE (Individual-Colored (as)) :

In the categories: +5 years; 6 - 7 years; 8 - 9 years
Polka dot strip

In the categories : 10 - 11 years; 12 - 13 years ;
Eliminations: ko-go kumite
Semifinal/final: Shiai kumite;

In the categories : 14 - 15 years; 16 - 17 years; 18 - 20 years; 21 - 44 years; 45 - 54 years; 55 - 64 and above -
Shiai Kumite.

KUMITE (Individual-Black Belts )

In the categories (Black belt): up to 14 - 15 years old will not be able to perform attacks on the "Jodan" face.
Shiai-Kumite

In the categories : 16 - 17 years and above , there may be attacks on the following criteria established by WTKF rules, only being allowed attacks towards "2 cm" of the "Jodan" face.

KATA (Individual-Colored (as) )

In categories up to 5 years, 6 - 7 years; 8 - 9 years; 10 - 11 years; 12 - 13 years; 14 - 15 years; 16 - 17 years; 18 - 20 years; 21 - 44 years; 45 - 54 years; 55 - 64 and above.

In the contests up to 9 years, 10 - 11 years the Kata will be free choice of the athlete;

In categories Individual Kata disputes in categories 12 - 13 years, 14 - 15 years, 16 - 17 years, 18 - 20 years; 21 - 44 years; 45 - 54 years; 55 - 64 and above (up to orange, green, purple) and adult dangai (brown), kata of free choice for the final, will be signaled by the flag system until 4 athletes remain; and in the final, Freedom of choice (Note systems).

KATA ( Individual-Black Belts )

In the categories (Black Belts) the qualifiers will be by flag, remaining 8 athletes. Kata of free choice for the semifinal and final (grades), passing 4 athletes to the final. You cannot repeat the semifinal Kata in the final;

In the case of a tie in the Kata mode in any category, for the tiebreaker criteria, all the notes are added, with the cut ones. If there is still a tie, the referee will choose a Heian Series Karate or Tekki-Shodan, held simultaneously by both athletes and will be given hantei .

WARNING:

When starting the competition of a category the competitors should be attentive, the coach should be attentive to the initial conference, and the coach of their athletes, mainly as smaller categories. After the initial conference, the called athlete will have one minute of presentation in the competition area. Not performing, the athlete, will receive kiken (quitting), unless will be competing in another area;

If the technician observes an irregularity that harmed his athlete, he will have the right to make a complaint through a written protest and must present himself to the Kansa da Área (Kata and kumite), or to the Director of Arbitration or Assistant of the Director of Arbitration, which will follow the procedures set out in the Competition Rules;

The other items to follow are the WTKF rules and the arbitration book.
